What are Hybrids?

In Devil Hunter, Hybrids are humans who have replaced their heart with a Devil's Heart, merging humanity and devil power into one entity. This transformation unlocks a unique combat mechanic where players can transform mid-battle into a powered-up state with devastating combat abilities.

Unlike Fiends – another transformation path in the game – Hybrids retain full control of their personality and identity. The power comes from the transplanted heart, which acts as a power source rather than an overriding consciousness.

How to Become a Hybrid

Becoming a Hybrid isn't automatic – it requires preparation, exploration, and resources. Follow these exact steps:

Reach Rank 2 (Junior Hunter)

Soul Realm opens at Rank 2+. Press M to enter and begin hybrid quest progression. See the Soul Realm guide for trial ranks.

Craft Hybrid Heart (Base Hybrid)

Collect 5 Hybrid shards (5% drop from raids) and craft a Hybrid Heart. Base Hybrid gives a random innate move and removes contracts while transformed.

Complete 3 Soul Realm Hybrid Quests

Finish hybrid quest steps in the Soul Realm to unlock Full Hybrid transformation (L key).

Transform with L Key

Press L during combat to toggle Hybrid form. Use Z/X/C for hybrid abilities. Cannot use contracts or inventory while transformed.

Devil's Heart Acquisition Methods

1. Map Spawns: Devil's Hearts have a chance to spawn randomly on the map periodically. You'll need luck or tracking tools to find them.
2. Quest from Ito NPC: Complete a specific quest that requires collecting items from bosses (e.g., bullets) to earn a Devil's Heart – a more reliable but time-consuming method.
3. Crafting: Combine 6 Devil Heart Fragments to create a complete Devil's Heart.

Prerequisites Summary

  • • 10,000 Yen (earned through missions, raids, and devil hunts)
  • • Hospital Access (visit the in-game Hospital)
  • • Nurse NPC (talk to initiate surgery)

Make sure you have enough yen saved before attempting legacy hospital surgery (10,000 yen). Release path uses Hybrid Heart + Soul Realm instead.

  • • Obtain Devil's Heart (map spawn, Ito quest, or 6 fragments)
  • • Save 10,000 yen and visit Hospital Nurse NPC
  • • Release players should follow Soul Realm hybrid quests above instead

All Hybrid Types

There are 10+ playable Hybrid types in Devil Hunter including CSM, Bomb, Chainsaw, and Katana. Each has unique abilities, strengths, and optimal scenarios.

Mode Bar (Patch 8.5)

  • • Hybrid transformation lasts 3 minutes via mode bar
  • • Cooldown applies only if you die during transformation
  • • If mode bar runs out naturally, no cooldown
  • • No longer spammable — plan transformations carefully

Progression & Fragments

  • • Hybrid fragment drop chance buffed to 10% (Patch 5)
  • • Hybrid quest pt.3 — can now consume parts, no longer softlocks (Patch 8)
  • • Hybrid progression quests fixed (Patch 7)
  • • EXP capped at 5,500 — excess EXP resets but rank/stars kept (Patch 8.5)

Skill Usage in Hybrid Form (Patch 8.5)

Ascended Gun Hybrid (Patch 8.5)

Ascended gun users can right-click M1 for burst like regular gun fiend. Ascended gun damage was buffed in 8.5, then further balanced in Patch 8.75.

If you lost fiend type or hybrid data after a patch, contact a moderator via the Bug Restore process — no automatic restore.

Which Hybrid Should I Choose?
